Changing Covers – does it annoy you?
I admit it, I’m completely OCD about having
all the same covers for books in a series.
For example, whilst I loved the adult
covers for the Harry Potter books and actually preferred them to the children’s
ones, I already had all the children’s ones in hardback, and so continued to
buy them to complete the set.
It annoyed me when they changed the covers
for The Saga of Darren Shan halfway through, leaving me with a set of
half-and-half’s. I liked the old
covers – okay, the new ones are fairly cool, but I couldn’t complete my set
looking the same because they just stopped doing them in the old style.
It actually annoys me equally as much when
I have part of a series in ebook format for my Kindle, and half in books. I’ve just done that to the Chemical
Garden series by Lauren DeStefano – it cost me less to buy the hardback version
of Fever online than it would have done to get the Kindle Edition, even though
I have Wither on the Kindle.
Does anyone else do things like this? Which cover changes have annoyed you
most?

Even if the changes are often pretty good I hate it if I don't have matching covers. I want them to be recognized as a series right away.
I wrote a post on my (german) blog about the same topic yesterday with a lot of pictures of (engl) covers which got changed after the first book in a series:

I think it is ok that they changes cover, but I hate when they change covers in a middle of a series. I think books should match an like you say then you get half of half. Hate that!
Ugh this really annoys me too and I thought I was the only one haha! I had no idea they were re-releasing Harry Potter with "adult" covers!? I prefer the old ones as well!
I have to say it irks me as well when covers change. I'm a huge Terry Brooks fan and I had all the original covers from the Heritage of Shanara storyline - then all the covers changed. I know it has to do with revitalizing the series and trying to engage new readers, but somehow I feel gypped.
I will have to say that I am certainly not digging the cost of eBooks right now. I have a nook from Barnes & Nobles and the eBooks often cost more than the printed version - massive ripoff! I've been following the US govt suit of Apple and other companies that offer eBooks with some interest.
come see what I'm reading now
Happy reading!

I hate having a series with different covers. I had to get the last book in the Millenium series as well as the last three in the Sookie Stackhouse series in different covers and it annoys me every time I look at my bookcase. I don't know why they have to change them!
